LEATHER CARE

How do you ensure that leather stays beautiful?
Maybe not the nicest thing to do, but very sensible! When purchasing your bag or other leather accessories, it is best to preventative protect the leather against influences to which it is exposed. Impregnate your new bag or other item with a special spray to protect the leather against moisture and dirt. Leather can lose its flexibility during use due to lack of maintenance. As you take care of your own skin, you must also take care of the leather. Use the correct care product regularly to keep the leather supple. You can do this by using a transparent care product. To freshen up any damage or the color of the material it is better to use a colored care product.

TIPS TO KEEP YOUR BAG NICE FOR A LONG TIME:

  • Impregnate your bag for use with a protective and nourishing leather spray. Then repeat this 2 to 3 times a year, so that the leather remains smooth and beautiful.
  • If you unexpectedly have a stain on your bag, you can remove it with a cleaning foam especially for leather.  You can use the  Clean and Care from Collonil very well for this! If you have cleaned the bag, it is important to dry it after drying After cleaning it is important to re-impregnate the bag against moisture and dirt.
  • Your bag could dry out if you place it near a heater, be aware of that.
  • Ensure that the leather bag is not exposed to the sun unnecessarily long, due to color change.
  • Avoid rain, hail and snow with a leather bag as much as possible. If your leather bag is wet with rain, let it dry naturally.
  • Probably very logical, but oils, makeup, cleaning products and other products that contain chemical substances can attack the product, so keep your bag away from it.
  • If you have a light color bag, be careful with which items of clothing you are going to wear the bag with. For example, jeans can drop off on the bag and that gives dark spots. If you have indeed got dark spots on your bag, you can always try to remove this with a cleaning foam. But often you do not get it completely clean, so be alert to this.
  • Do you have a suede bag? Suede is made from the inside of leather and becomes more valued by its use. It is important to properly impregnate suede before use.
  • In most cases, a dust bag is supplied with the bag. If you do not use the bag, it is best to keep it in this dust bag in a dark and dry place.

DIFFERENT MAINTENANCE PRODUCTS

We have made a selection of maintenance products that you can use to care for, maintain and protect your new bag. Collonil has a few beautiful transparent care products with propellant gas and without.

COLLONIL ORGANIC LINE

Collonil has a specially developed organic line for the conscious consumer, in which 90% natural ingredients are processed. This spray is solvent-free and contains no propellant gas and offers protection, care and cleaning with natural ingredients. This line is available with olive oil and with bamboo . Thanks to the pump injector you can easily spray inside your bag. These Collonil products provide long-term and effective protection against dirt and moisture and are suitable for smooth leather, suede, nu buck, textile and material combinations.

COLLONIL NANOPRO

The Nanopro spray is an innovative High-Tech protection developed from Nano technology. This technology is based on microscopic particles. They have used this technology in care products so that leather fibers can be wrapped one by one, making the Nanopro spray a real water and dirt blocker. This spray is suitable for smooth leather, nu buck, suede and textile.

RAPIDE LEATHER DRESSING

Especially for the bags and accessories from Castelijn & Barrens there is the  Rapid leather dressing . This leather dressing is a cleaning and nourishing maintenance product, specially developed for smooth leather accessories such as leather boots, bags and other leather accessories. The bags from Castelijn & Barrens are made from full-grain cowhide leather, this leather dressing helps very well to keep the bag looking good for longer.

MAINTENANCE OF VARIOUS LEATHERS

THIS IS HOW YOU MAINTAIN YOUR SUEDE PRODUCT

Suede is made from the inside of leather. Products made of suede can give off color (especially in the case of dark-colored Suede) and are made more difficult by use. There are suede sprays with color restorers to freshen up the color. However, it is more important to properly impregnate products made of suede before use. Moisture, dirt and oils leave stains in suede faster than leather, so preventive protection is the message.

THIS IS HOW YOU MAINTAIN YOUR NU BUCK PRODUCT

Nu buck looks a bit like suede but with nu buck light sanding is applied to the top of the skin, creating a velvety appearance and feeling. Nu buck is very sensitive to dirt, grease, moisture, perspiration and sunlight (UV radiation), so it is necessary to protect it well. Products made from nu buck are always getting worse with use. There are sprays with color restorers to freshen up the color. Protecting with a special spray is therefore a must do!

THIS IS HOW YOU MAINTAIN YOUR SNAKE LEARNING PRODUCT

If you have a leather bag made of reptile material, such as croco, python or snake, it is also important to take good care of it and to protect it for a long time to enjoy it. Collonil has a specially developed product for reptile material, the exotic spray.  Make sure you spray the accessory before use and that you repeat this regularly.

THIS IS HOW YOU MAINTAIN YOUR PATENT LEATHER PRODUCT

Patent leather can have an even appearance or be processed (for example croco). Different materials are used as a substrate to manufacture lacquer, for example cowhide or split leather. A high-gloss foil is applied to this. Patent leather is a fragile material: it will wrinkle on the bending and bending spots and eventually cracks and blisters can occur. This product should certainly not be treated with a leather / suede spray, as this will affect the paint layer. Cleaning with a damp cloth is more than enough for patent leather.

THIS IS HOW YOU MAINTAIN YOUR SHEEP  AND GOAT LEATHER ARTICLE

Sheep and goat leather is vegetable tanned without a finish layer. The naturally drier and stiffer sheep skins are hand-polished in the old tradition with a 'water stain' and finished with a wax-based product. As a result, sheep leather almost always displays the so-called 'cloud effect'. Since relatively small skins are processed, color and structure differences in the product cannot be avoided. Due to the structure of sheep leather, small hairline cracks may arise in the beginning (also known as the crackle effect). This is precisely what enhances the charm of the leather, also thanks to the antique look. This product is also best impregnated in advance (nanopro spray) and you use a care product for maintenance.
